My Stellar Journey

My journey into teaching English as a second language started in China in 2014, where I worked in schools, private training centers, and as a tutor for 1-1 lessons, serving both children and adults. After a short break, I resumed my teaching journey in Vietnam, continuing to teach both adults and children in groups as large as 20+ students per class. My lessons were known for their variety of fun activities, all while effectively achieving the lesson objectives. However, when the COVID-19 pandemic struck, my teaching landscape transformed dramatically. The materials and software provided by my school proved to be inadequate for online teaching. The methodologies I had perfected in traditional classrooms were no longer as effective online, and the available materials fell short in terms of excitement and engagement for young learners. After a short while, I made the decision to leave my job and become a freelance online tutor. Despite working fewer hours and the freedom of working for myself, my time was consumed by the demanding task of preparing for the following week's lessons and sourcing/making materials from scratch. While my lessons became more effective than before, the sheer amount of time spent creating and preparing them, combined with the demands of upcoming lessons, became overwhelming. Despite the challenges I faced as an online ESL tutor, I was determined to make a change for myself and others in the same boat. Many new online ESL tutors encountered the same problems I had – feeling overwhelmed by lesson planning and disheartened when teaching lessons that failed to captivate their students. It was from this that I began creating my own materials. These resources are designed to empower educators, not only to teach more effectively but also to regain control of their time.
